Jang Keun Suk stands at the top of the Yearly Media Oricon Chart

Jang Keun Suk proves his high popularity as a Korean representative ‘idol’ star in Japan.

The December 22 Oricon chart, the most renowned music ranking chart, showed that Jang ranked top for the category called the Yearly Media Ranking 2011 for his first pictorial.

This is the first time for a foreign actor to take the top position after Kwon Sang Woo climbed that high five years ago.

It also can be viewed exceptional because most of the higher positions have usually been dominated by female ‘idol’ actors.

Jang has gained high popularity since the Korean hit drama series You’re Beautiful became a huge success. The relevant DVDs as well have remained high in sales volume in Japan.

Jang Keun Suk attracts the female audience as a student majoring in art

Jang Keun Suk shows soft charisma this time.

A few stills from a new drama series Love Rain (written by Oh Su Yeon and directed by Yoon Seok Ho), which aims at airing early next year, were released on December 8. In one of the pictures, Jang attracts attention by perfectly changing into Seo In Ha, a tender yet charismatic student majoring in art.

Love Rain is a drama series directed by Yoon Seok Ho and writer Oh Su Yeon who also created Winter Sonata and Autumn in My Heart together. Jang is cast in the role of Seo In Ha in the 70s, a handsome student majoring in art who loves only one woman, and Seo Jun in 2012, a picky and cold-hearted photographer. He describes two opposite characters.

In the picture, Jang is focusing on sketching with a gloomy look in his eyes, wearing a paint-stained apron in the atmosphere that has full of warm sunshine. It reminds of one of the scenes from romance comics.

Jang said, “Seo In Ha from the 70s is a sentimental and gentle person. I’m trying to describe the character in a relaxed and delicate manner. The lines are lyrical. I’ll try my best to describe the character’s feelings as befitted Love Rain.”

Love Rain is a drama series directed by Yoon Seok Ho. He is planning to describe the pure analogue love of the 70s and fast-changing digital love of 2012 through watercolor-like images. It is expected to air early next year.

ang Keun Suk gets appointed as honorary ambassador for 2012 Seoul Nuclear Security Summit

On December 7, actor Jang Keun Suk attended the appointment ceremony because he is nominated as honorary ambassador of 2012 Seoul Nuclear Security Summit which will be held on the 26th and 27th of March next year.

2012 Seoul Nuclear Security Summit is a place where over 50 countries and various international organizations appear and discuss about the prevention and countermeasures of nuclear terrorism.

Previously in November, singer Park Jung Hyun and child actress Jin Ji Hee, Wang Seok Hyun attended the appointment ceremony. In this ceremony, Kim Sung Hwan, the leader of the preparation and planning for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade asked Jang Keun Suk to make the importance of nuclear security widely known and presented him an appointment certificate.

Jang revealed, “I was in deep sorrow when the Fukushima nuclear accident happened, leaving an indelible scar in Japan. From that incident, I thought deeply about what the consequences would be if someone commits terrorism at one of the nuclear power plants. Therefore, I will alert people beyond borders about the importance of nuclear security. I hope many people pay attention and participate.”

Kim Sung Hwan, the leader of the preparation and planning revealed, “I expect that appointing Jang Keun Suk as honorary ambassador, who is supported by many people and who has a global image, will successfully let the people know about the importance of this summit and nuclear security in a friendly and heartfelt way.”

Jang Keun Suk donates 5 million won by successfully bidding for the Miss Korea’s crown

Jang Keun Suk donated 5 million won on the spot.

On December 6 at 6 pm, he successfully bid for the Miss Korea’s crown, which the host Mucha brought out, at the price of 5 million won at the 3rd Asia Jewelry Awards, which took place in Seoul InterContinental Hotel.

He bid for the crown with a female participant from 3,700 thousand won. And it was successfully auctioned off to him at the price of 5 million won. The profits from Jang will be donated to UNICEF and used to help needy neighbors in the world.

He also donated 1,200 million won to his school Hanyang University recently. And He again showed his kindness through the charity auction event and was praised by others.

JYJ’s Jun Su, Moon Chae Won, T-ara, and MBLAQ also participated in the charity auction by putting their prized possessions for auction, selling them on the spot, and donating the profits to UNICEF.

Jang Keun Suk ranks high on 2011 Japanese Google search words list

Actor Jang Keun Suk recently ranked high on the 2011 Japanese Google search words list.

On Decmeber 5, Jang’s agency, Tree J. Complany, said that Jang ranked 1st on the Korean Wave category of the list. Jang also ranked 5th on the newsmaker category and 3rd on the male category after beating out Japanese top idol stars, including Arashi and AKB48.

The ranking shows each categories, including, key words, people, products, news, and entertainments, which people searched the most on Japanese Google during 2011. It reflects the trends of 2011 and it also predicts the next year’s trend.

Jang says, “I was active in Japan holding concerts, like Arena tour and Tokyo Dome concert in 2011. I think that’s why Japanese people are paying attention to me and I will always try hard to thank the fans who support me a lot. I will work harder to give my love back to them.”

Over 60,000 tickets for Jang’s Arena tour, which was held in October, sold out and 44,000 tickets for his Tokyo Dome concert also sold out. His movie You’re My Pet will also be released in January, 2012 in over 100 theaters in Japan.

Jang is recently shooting director Yoon Suk Ho’s series Love Rain.

‘You’re My Pet’ sell to 9 Asian countries “Jang Keun Suk effect”

The movie You’re My Pet is currently causing a sensation in Asia.

The movie is about a girl named Ji Eun (played by Kim Ha Neul), who is beautiful and talented but not lucky in love, and Kang In Ho (played by Jang Keun Suk), who becomes her pet and their transition from friends to lovers. The movie is sold to 9 Asian countries, including Japan, China, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Brunei.

In Japan, the movie will be released on January 1 of the next year in over 100 theaters. Toho, one of the biggest film distribution company in Japan, said that the movie will be a great hit and increase popularity of Korean films in Japan.

China, which rarely releases Korean movies, will also release You’re My Pet in February or in March. Jang, who has over 800 thousand Chinese fans, and Kim, who helped the movie 7th Grade Civil Servant become a hit, showed their power in the movie world.

Many people from 9 Asian countries are eagerly anticipating the movie.
